Myopic Macular Degeneration
The disease affects many patients with high myopia and can be complicated by neovascularisation, i.e. an abnormal vessel that growing progressively leads to destruction of cones and rods, the retinal cells responsible for vision. This complication is one of the main causes of legal blindness in the western world and if not diagnosed and treated in time leads to irreversible loss of sight. Early diagnosis, both clinical and instrumental, is therefore of fundamental importance in order to provide the appropriate therapy.

MyopicCNV+™
This is the first global, open source and totally free advanced diagnostic project built on artificial intelligence. It concerns a specific retinal pathology, myopic macular degeneration and aims to combine the potential of artificial intelligence to reduce the possibility of diagnostic error.

The Software
The MyopicCNV+™ software is based on the retinal structural images of a commonly used clinical tool in ophthalmology, the spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Through automatic analysis of the images uploaded by the operator, MyopicCNV+™ can identify the presence of a neovascular lesion and assess its activity scan by scan, with a sensitivity of more than 90 %. The software is intended for ophthalmologists and professionals in the field.
